How to look after your cover in stormy weather

With all of the extreme weather we have been experiencing recently, we wanted to provide you with some tips and advice on how best to look after your Pro-Tec storage cover in these windy conditions.

  • If a storm warning is given prepare! Just as you would protect any loose garden furniture or plant pots in stormy and windy weather, you should do the same for your Pro-Tec storage cover! We recommend that you remove your cover before the storm comes if possible, to avoid the winds damaging your cover. Extreme gales can pull at the cover and potentially cause tears if a big gust gets caught in the cover. If the wind is strong enough to blow a trampoline out of the garden, it’s strong enough to damage your cover!
  • Protect your cover from wear and tear! Make sure any sharp or protruding areas of your caravan or motorhome are well protected before fitting the cover (as we would recommend all year round to preserve your cover) as extreme winds can cause movement with the cover which could lead to wear/holes in your cover. Foam pipe lagging, polystyrene, or sponge is ideal to be used to place onto sharp/protruding areas of your vehicle (i.e. aerials, sharp corners, flues etc.) to protect the cover from rubbing on these areas in windy conditions.
  • Repair any holes or tears to avoid them getting worse! If you notice the cover has been damaged it can be repaired fairly easily so you can still use your cover for years to come. We do send out spare fabric with each full cover for you to be able to do patch repairs on the covers if needed. We recommend using Evostick contact adhesive to glue a patch of fabric to the inside of the cover where it is torn/worn. Cover the patch in the adhesive and place the patch on the inside of the cover, gluing the coloured side of the patch to the inside of the cover.
  • If the job is too big, we can help! If you are unable to repair the cover yourselves, we do offer a repair service on our covers. We would need photos of the cover/damage so we can determine firstly, if it is possible for us to repair the cover, and secondly the cost of the repair. All covers must be in a relatively clean and dry state for us to do any remedial works on them. We can arrange to have them collected by our courier at your convenience to get the cover back to us so it can be worked on!
  • Don’t be afraid to ask! Our team are always available if you have any questions or concerns regarding caring for your Pro-Tec covers, not just in storms but all year round.
