The power of Pro-Tec

Spring is on our doorsteps and before we know it, we will be battling between sunny skies and April showers. A lot of people ask if our covers are suitable to be used all year round and the answer is yes! We want to remind people that they don’t have to take their covers off when Summer comes because our covers still offer incredible protection.

What a lot of people don’t know is that our covers actually offer UV protection which means they are perfect for Spring when it’s raining and sunny at the same time, because whilst you protect your caravan from damp you can equally protect it from UV fading! What more could you ask for?

Even when we reach Summer, if we’re lucky enough to get some sun the covers will be perfect for covering your vehicle when it’s not in use as it will keep it protected from the damaging UV rays from the sun.

We also provide all of our customers with the option to have a clear insert placed into their cover to allow a solar panel which can continue working whilst the cover is on. Some companies warn against this, however, the clear PVC that we use is not only fire resistant but also UV stable, so you don’t need to worry about it becoming brittle and cracking in sunny conditions. They also do not cause any damage to solar panels with overheating. Again, showing that the cover is perfect for sunnier days!

We do also receive a lot of questions asking if the covers are 100% waterproof, especially since Spring can be unpredictable and there can be heavy rain one minute and sunshine the next! Our covers are waterproof up to 1 metre of water, which means that 1 metre of water can sit on top of the fabric before any moisture will seep through. This is incredibly strong protection from water but also still allows for the cover to have its breathability. Without this, your vehicle would sweat under the cover and you would have condensation, mould or even mildew on your vehicle.

It’s actually impossible for a cover to be both breathable and waterproof, as the only waterproof fabrics are vinyl’s and plastics which can scratch your vehicle and also as mentioned cause condensation and mould on your vehicle. Your vehicle will be massively protected from the elements with our covers, whilst allowing your vehicle to breathe.

England’s Top 5 Caravan & Motorhome Sites (and why you need to go)

A tradition that goes back centuries, caravanning is a staple of British holidaymaking that represents the freedom to create a home from home without breaking the bank.

In anticipation of English Tourism Week, an annual campaign set up to celebrate the exciting, diverse and vibrant sector, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite campsites from this great nation for you to add to your bucket list.

With over 3000 caravan sites across the UK, there are plenty of locations with incredible vistas and natural features to choose from which are also suitable for motorhomers too. Here are our top picks of some of the most impressive places to appreciate from your lawn chair.

Wheal Rodney Holiday Park, Cornwall

It’s easy to see why Cornwall is one of the most visited regions in the UK, combining a universally British love of pastry and ice cream with seemingly endless stretches of stunning beaches and natural landscapes.

Wheal Rodney Holiday Park perfectly encapsulates this. A mere 20-minute walk away from the tidal island of St Michael’s Mount, a man-made causeway separates you from an ancient castle and some of the most inspiring views to be found anywhere on the British Isles. It’s also accessible by boat should the tide be against you.

As well as containing all of the features you’d expect from a modern caravan site, including electric hook up as standard, there is also a superheated indoor swimming pool onsite should the sea prove too cold.

Hill Cottage Farm Caravan Park, Dorset

Immerse yourself in 40 acres of pristine New Forest countryside. This private and family-owned site provides hardstanding, fully serviced pitches complete with dividing hedges for extra privacy.

With several award-winning parks, trails and market towns within a few miles of the site, there’s plenty to do and see while enjoying the local greenery. Our top picks include the Heavy Horse farm park for an educational and conservation centric day trip as well as Stonehenge – the Neolithic wonder of the world just a short drive away.

Coniston Park Coppice Caravan Club Site, Lake District

Cumbria and Caravanning are practically synonymous with each other. Based near the shore of Coniston Water, this site combines the beauty of the lakes with a base for endless activities.

From hiking and biking to any number of water sports, Coniston Park is nestled within 63 acres of National Trust woodland, its central location making it ideal for exploring the whole National Park. Imaginatively landscaped, pitches are grouped in open glades for the easiest possible access to the attractions of Coniston Water and beyond.

If water sports aren’t your thing it’s only another 1.5 miles to Coniston Pier where you’ll find relaxing steamboat rides, as well as gondola and boat, which you can hire to go at your own pace.

Glororum Holiday Park, Northumberland

Considered a hidden gem by many, we’ve no problems with helping to spread the word about a pitch near one of the most aesthetic coastlines in the world (in our opinion!).

Family owned and run, facilities include hardstanding pitches and a central heated laundrette complex with washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing facilities as well as an on-site shop to pick up any handy items you might have missed.

The location is where Glororum truly shines through. The closest caravan park to Bamburgh, a walk down the nearby beach provides incredible views of the imposing Bamburgh castle perched just above one of Britains finest beaches.

Foxhill Park, Yorkshire

Our top pick finds itself in this position because it truly has a bit of everything.

The Ryedale district is famous for its market towns, historic attractions and coastal resorts. With the village of Claxton on your doorstep, you’ll find a plethora of shops, cafes and history as well as great transport links to York and Scarborough from the bus service just 10 minutes walk away.

For rural rambling, you’re just a stone's throw from “God’s Country” and the Yorkshire moors for hiking, biking, horse-riding and much more, all set in pristine and unspoiled countryside. While these stunning destinations deserve to be celebrated during English Tourism Week, the same might not be said for the weather. If we’ve inspired you to visit any of our favourite sites, make sure you’ve got your cover at the ready.

Caravan tips for the Spring

Now that January is nearly at an end, we can start to look forward to Spring. Longer daylight hours, blossom on the trees, warmer weather and most importantly, the start of caravanning season!

Between the months of March and April, most caravanning sites begin to open their gates again and welcome caravanners and campers from around the country. Booking your place during the first few weeks of the season could secure you a great early bird discount rate!

Want to make sure your caravan is ready for the season?

Here is a list of our top tips to get your caravan ready for the Spring!

1.       Check Your Tires – During the winter your caravan tires may have deflated or even gone flat. Carefully inspect your tires before making any trips. Check for any cracks, bulges or damage to the tires and the wheel arches. Also, be sure to check they are correctly inflated to the right pressure. Don’t forget to check the spare tire too!

2.       Check the Electrics –Make sure all electrical goods in the caravan work before setting off! Nothing could be worse than arriving at your destination and discovering that the lights don’t work. Carefully check each electrical device and outlet within the caravan to ensure everything is in safe, working order.

3.       Securing Everything –Safety comes first when towing a caravan. Be sure that all your security devices are in working order. Test any hitch locks or wheel locks to ensure they will still protect your asset from theft. Also, rigorously test the door and window locks to make sure they are still secure.

4.       Water Check –The cold weather during winter could have caused some damage to your water system. A build-up of ice could lead to leaks or cracks within the water system and toilet cassette. Flush out the water system and change the filter (if needed). If you spot any leaks, get the water system replaced immediately.

5.       Look for Damp –Damp can easily occur during the winter months. The cold and wet weather paired with the caravan being unused gives damp the perfect opportunity to damage your caravan interior. Make sure to check all windows, doors, and skylights for any signs of leaks of mildew. Check all upholstery too, if damp has set in your upholstery it may need to be replaced.

Performing these checks will ensure that your caravan is safe and ready for the next touring season!
Once you are sure that your caravan is in good shape and ready for touring, keep it protected with one of our specialist covers.

When you purchase a cover or towing jackets from Pro-Tec, you can be sure that your caravan is safe from damp, UV damage, water damage, and dirt. Our covers also come with a soft underlayer meaning no damage to paintwork or windows. Our covers are tailored to your caravan ensuring that it is the perfect fit.
