Towing Jacket VS. Caravan Cover?

There are so many options to protecting your caravan/motorhome, it can be hard to know what the right fit for your vehicle is! Luckily, in our blog today we are going to go over the difference between a towing jacket and a storage cover and the benefits of both, which should help you decide which one is right for you.

Towing Jackets

A towing jacket is the perfect way to protect your vehicle when it is in transit. Our Pro-Tec Towing Jacket is especially designed to provide your caravan with excellent protection against road dirt and grime, bug waste and exhaust fume stains.

Our towing jacket is a unique 2-piece construction, each of the two halves slide up into the awning channels and then simply zip together in the middle. It’s so simple!

The towing jacket meets all legal requirements for visibility of your front lights and is tailored to your specific make and model of your caravan, so we know exactly where your front marker lights are located and we have clear panels in the correct position so your lights can be clearly seen. The towing jacket offers incredible protection when towing!

Our Towing Jackets also have the option of grab handle access, meaning you can get access to your grab handles without having to remove the cover once you get to site.

Stone chips are a threat to caravans and motorhomes in transit as it can chip your window and that is not a cheap job to repair, especially compared to the cost of our towing jackets.

Therefore, if you find yourself towing your caravan quite regularly and especially on long journey we would definitely recommend you purchase one of our Towing Jacket covers!

Caravan Covers

Our full Easy-Fit caravan cover is more suited to protect your caravan against UV rays, rain, rust, snow, dust and dirt and so much more whilst it is in storage.

The cover is fully breathable, so it provides protection for your caravan from mould, mildew and condensation. The cover will allow naturally occurring moisture to evaporate through the fabric’s breathable membrane.

Our Easy-Fit covers come fully tailored to each make and model with habitation door access and allowances for any roof furniture. We can even add clear solar panel inserts to the covers as an optional extra!

If your caravan is kept in either outdoor or indoor storage throughout periods of the year our full covers are ideal for protecting your caravan and ensuring your vehicles value and longevity.

We have been developing and manufacturing caravan covers and towing jackets for over 20 years in the heart of Yorkshire. We are avid caravanners ourselves so we know exactly what people need when it comes to a cover either for towing or for storage.

The Benefits of Using a Car Cover

Whilst many people use a cover to keep their caravan or motorhome safe from weather damage and vandalism, a vast majority of people have not considered having a cover for their car.
Your car is an integral part of your everyday life, keeping it in good condition is imperative for commuting, shopping and leisure activities. When leaving it exposed all the time, your car is at risk from various types of damage.

Through the use of a car cover, you can protect your car from;

  1. Protection From Dirt and Pollen – During the spring and summer, pollen dirt and sap can easily be blown onto your car. Protecting your car from such elements will be a real time and money saver, as you will not have to clean your car as often. As well as being a nuisance, it can also damage your car’s paintwork and finish. It can also be a health risk to the driver if they suffer from hay fever.
  2. Protection From Wet Weather – Wet weather can cause substantial damage to your car. Snow, hail, and rain are notorious for damaging the paintwork and finish of your car, as well as damaging car areas and windscreen wipers. The wet weather can also cause your car to rust which would result in a pricy repair bill.
  3. Protection From UV Rays – Most people think a cover is just for the winter, but the sun is also a major culprit of causing damage to your car. The UV rays can cause damage to the interior and exterior. Leather seats are at risk of being dried out, dulled, cracked and peeling. The car's exterior paintwork is also at risk of fading, as well as car doors and bonnets warping.
  4. Protection From Animals – Many animals such as cats, birds, and rats like cars. It gives them a handy place to hide and in the winter it provides warmth from the cold. This can lead to your car getting scratches, dirt, hair and animal droppings on it. Insects have also been known to create nests in cars which can cause major issues for your engine. Having a cover will act as a form of protection.
  5. Prevents Theft and Vandalism – A car cover can prevent criminals from vandalising or stealing your car. A thief that is intending to break into or steal a car will want to work quickly, a cover will prevent them from seeing what is inside the car and what make and model it is. Removing the cover may also draw attention to them. It’s the same with vandalism, they would have to remove the cover before damaging your car.

At Pro-Tec, we offer two types of covers that can keep your car protected;

The two types of cover we offer are indoor and outdoor.

Our indoor covers are full tailored and are made using a high-quality stretch fleece fabric that comes in a variety of colour options, to protect your car from dust etc. for when you’re storing your cars inside.

Our outdoor covers are also fully tailored and made from the same exclusive high quality fabric we use to manufacture caravan and motorhome covers. This fabric is the most breathable on the market, whilst also being waterproof up to 1m of standing water. This fabric also has a non-abrasive inner lining preventing any damage to paintwork of the car which can come with cheaper alternatives.

Ready-Fit Covers-Ready-Fit covers could be called "semi-custom" since they are designed to provide a very good fit using incremental sizing and a hatchback silhouette.

Why Protex 003 is the Best for Covers

At Pro-Tec Covers, we understand that as a caravan or motorhome owner, you would be going on off road adventures very often. This means you’d need a material for your towing cover that is strong and durable as well as light weight and breathable.

Back in the old days people used tarpaulins and non-breathable vinyls to cover their vehicles which caused all kinds of problems. Vehicles were badly affected by damp and condensation which became very costly to fix. Other issues included damage and scratching to vehicles paint work and windows. We decided that this wasn’t good enough and have developed our own exclusive material to revolutionise the caravan and motorhome covers market!

Our fabric, PROTEX003, is exclusive to Pro-Tec Covers in the caravan & motorhome market. We have worked closely with our UK manufacturer to get the highest quality fabric perfectly adapted to keep your investment protected. There are now many similar materials on the market. However, some competing manufacturers still use materials which are known to scratch paintwork and windows.  Some of our competitors recommend that you cover your windows when you have your caravan cover fitted but there is no need to do that with a Pro-Tec Cover.

Protex003 is a 3-ply material which is developed and manufactured here in the UK specifically for the caravan and motorhome cover market.  The outer layer is available in three colours, green for rural storage, grey for urban surroundings or the royal blue option.  The external layer is UV protected and comes with a 3-year warranty on its properties. The inside membrane is non-abrasive to guarantee that the cover will not scratch your windows or paintwork. The outer layer is also waterproof up to a metre of water, meaning your vehicle is protected from even the most extreme British gales.

Some manufacturers still use materials that don't breathe.  However, you can be safe in the knowledge that independent lab tests have shown our fabric to be much more breathable than our competitors meaning that condensation that typically leads to damp/mould will not be trapped. This means you can avoid rust and damp build up and extend the longevity of your vehicle!

When it comes to choosing a cover for your caravan or motorhome, make sure that you are choosing the best! With Protex003, you can be sure that your cover will protect your vehicle from external scratches and dirt as well as not scratching your vehicles paintwork and causing condensation and this material is only available from Pro-Tec Covers!
