5 Reasons to Buy a Caravan Cover

5 Reasons to Buy a Caravan Cover

PREVIEW

There are usually two schools of thought when it comes to caravan covers.

‘They are amazing! As soon as I made the plunge and got one, I would never go back!’

Or

‘I don’t see the point! They are a waste of money and cause condensation.’

There is a lot of conflicting information about Caravan Covers out there; some of it is true, and some not so much. (read our blog “four myths you shouldn’t believe about caravan covers”). You have to remember, like all things, that not all covers are made the same.

Say you might have had a bad experience with a cheap cover in the past. That doesn’t mean a lovely tailored cover would treat you just as badly!

To make it straightforward, we have put together five reasons to buy a (good) Caravan cover.

1. A PRISTINE CARAVAN IS A HAPPY ONE

The most obvious benefit to using a cover is the time and effort it saves you in repeatedly cleaning your caravan.

Would you rather spend 15 minutes installing a Protec Easy-Fit cover each winter or spend hours on ladders scrubbing algae and dirt off of your caravan?

When you’re excited to get out and about in your caravan, you don’t want to be bothered with the task of cleaning and polishing your caravan. Installing a cover means you can pull the cover off to reveal a pristine sparking caravan, hitch up and be off and away with no delays.

But we still have to clean the caravan before we put the cover on at the start of winter.’

Yes, this is true, but hosing and wiping down your caravan after using it is much quicker than cleaning it after a winter of bad weather.

2. IT’S NOT JUST LIVING THINGS THAT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT UV

You may not realise how damaging UV is to your caravan. Over a long time, you may not notice the gradual fading and discolouring of your paintwork and decals. This kind of damage can prematurely age your caravan and lead to costly work to restore it to its former glory.

A cover made from UV-resistant fabric can protect your caravan from harmful UV rays. Just like suncream protects our skin from the sun, a cover would do the same for your caravan.

Making the effort to protect your caravan from extended UV exposure can also help maintain the resell value of your caravan when the time comes.

3. THE FORCE OF NATURE (SORT OF)

It isn’t just UV your caravan has to worry about; there are a lot of things nature throws at your caravan while you’re not using it. A lot of the damage inflicted on your caravan happens on the roof, so it’s easy to forget about it.

But as the months tick away, tree sap, rotting leaves, and bird guano can all build up on the roof of your caravan, leading to unsightly algae and staining that is hard and sometimes expensive to remove.

The pH levels of tree sap and bird droppings can be extremely damaging to your paintwork if left for long periods. If you have ever had to have your car re-sprayed, you know how expensive that kind of repair can be.

A cover acts as a layer of protection against these elements, saving you the worry and cost of potential future problems and making sure you don’t suffer the five common areas of caravan damage.

4. NO PEEKING

Believe it or not, a lot of people buy covers to act as a theft deterrent. The time it takes to remove the cover from the caravan to get access to it can deter people from attempting to steal it.

Keeping the caravan hidden under the cover can also stop peeping toms from having a nosey, both at the caravan itself and inside it.

If you store your caravan on a site away from home, having a cover to shield it can give you the added peace of mind it is not exposed. A cover also helps you identify it, making it easier when it is time to collect your caravan in the spring. (We can also personalize your cover with logos or words).

5. TO SHIELD AGAINST THE UNPREDICTABLE

We can’t predict the future, but we can take steps to protect ourselves from the curve balls life likes to throw at us. Whether you keep your caravan on your drive or a secure site, it can become a victim of accidental damage or vandalism.

Would you rather a £400 cover get a small tear (that can easily be repaired), because someone has accidentally scraped something against it, or a large scratch or dent in your caravan?

We like to think that these kinds of things would never happen to us, but would you rather risk it?

A cover can also act as an extra layer of protection against damage, so you can relax knowing your caravan is safe and protected.

In short, purchasing a high-quality bespoke cover can save you time, stress and money in the long run whilst making sure your caravan remains your pride and joy all year round.

After all, why would you spend money on a caravan to not bother looking after it?
